Preconstruction MEP Estimator – Position Description: 

The Preconstruction MEP Estimator (PCMEPE) is responsible for preconstruction phase MEP estimating and planning services associated with Construction Management at Risk delivery methods. The Preconstruction MEP Estimator works directly with the Preconstruction Manager, Owner, Design Team and the Operations Team. This position develops MEP FP construction cost models and estimates throughout all phases of design as well as schedule and logistics plans to support the overall preconstruction effort. The Preconstruction MEP Estimator will closely coordinate these services with the construction operations team.  

Essential Functions of a Preconstruction MEP Estimator: 

  • Quantitative Estimation in 2D and 3D Environments 
  • Examine plans and specifications for comprehensive comprehension of labor, material, and equipment costs, facilitating the creation of precise cost estimates during schematic, design development, and construction document phases. 
  • Accurately comprehend and formulate unit costs. 
  • Foster positive customer relations with Owners and Design Teams. 
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with subcontractors. 
  • Possess a thorough understanding of market dynamics and pricing. 
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing and verify the scope of work. 
  • Develop relevant bid packages/scopes of work aligned with the project. 
  • Support Business Development in preparing technical proposals and delivering oral presentations. 
  • Undertake other assigned duties as needed. 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating/preconstruction, with a focus on MEP FP. 
  • Strong time management skills and acute attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency in computerized estimating software such as Cost OS, mc2, Pro Contractor, Navisworks Manage, BIM, Pro Contractor, or similar applications. 
  • Competence in PDF Mark-up, I-sf, and Primavera (P6) or similar project management applications. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. 
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam. 
  • Openness to travel and work at various locations. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse, multi-disciplined groups. 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

Project Types: Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Laboratory, MEP and Commercial Experience is a plus
